How to Use AI to Fix Your English Grammar Mistakes
June 10, 2026 · 4 min read
AI grammar tools are everywhere. Used well, they're like having a patient tutor on call. Used badly, they turn your English into the AI's English and leave you no better than before. Here's the difference.
Write first, ask second
Always write the full entry yourself before showing it to AI. Even if you're unsure. Especially if you're unsure. The struggle is the lesson — letting the AI write for you skips that struggle entirely.
Ask for explanations, not rewrites
When the AI corrects you, read the explanation. Why is it 'I have been waiting' and not 'I am waiting since'? If you don't understand, ask. A good AI coach explains tense, preposition, or article rules in plain English so the correction sticks next time.
The Daily English Journal coach is designed this way on purpose — short feedback, one or two specific fixes, and a reason for each one.
Re-write the corrected version
This is the step most learners skip. After reading the corrections, rewrite the sentence in your own words. Now your hand and brain have practised the right pattern — not just read it. That's what makes the correction permanent.
