30 Daily English Writing Prompts for Learners (All Levels)

The hardest part of journaling in English is the first sentence. A good prompt removes that friction. Below are 30 prompts grouped by level — pick one and write for five minutes. Don't edit. Don't translate. Just write.

Beginner (A1–A2)

1. What did you eat today? 2. Describe your room. 3. Who did you talk to today? 4. What is your favourite drink and why? 5. Describe your morning routine. 6. What weather do you like? 7. What did you buy this week? 8. Describe a person in your family. 9. What is one thing that made you smile today? 10. What do you want to do tomorrow?

Intermediate (B1–B2)

11. Describe a small problem you solved this week. 12. What is something you used to believe but don't anymore? 13. Write about a place you'd love to visit. 14. What is a skill you want to learn? 15. Describe the last time you laughed hard. 16. What is one habit you'd like to change? 17. Write a letter to yourself one year ago. 18. What's a piece of advice that helped you? 19. Describe a memorable meal. 20. What would a perfect day look like?

Advanced (C1+)

21. What is something most people get wrong about your culture? 22. Describe a moment that changed your mind about something important. 23. Argue for or against working remotely. 24. What is something you used to fear that you no longer do? 25. Describe a stranger you remember. 26. What does success mean to you, and how has that definition shifted? 27. Write about a book or film that disappointed you. 28. What would you tell a child about your country? 29. Describe a small joy that consistently lifts your mood. 30. If you had a year to do anything, what would you build?
